Environmental measurement & evidence · Ireland

Eliminate the nuisance before the objection.

Nuisance concerns — noise, odour, dust, light, water and more — are what turn a planning proposal into an objection. We help you find and understand them early, with a managed, source-linked evidence report, so you can act before the objection lands rather than after.

What we measure

Pick the problem you actually have.

Most nuisance is a sensation — a smell, a sound, a glare, a shudder — that disappears the moment you try to prove it. Here is what we measure, and what it becomes.

Sound & noise

A pub, plant, padel court or road that is plainly too loud — but “too loud” is not evidence.

We measure

LAeq, LAFmax, L90 and frequency, measured at the receptor against the limit that actually applies.

Learn more

Odour & air quality

You can smell it clearly — but by the time anyone official arrives, it is gone.

We measure

H₂S, ammonia and VOCs logged continuously and correlated with wind direction and site operations.

Learn more

Light intrusion

Floodlights, signage or a neighbouring site bleeding glare into homes late at night.

We measure

Lux and spectral readings taken at the affected window, timestamped against the guidance that applies.

Learn more

Dust & particulates

Dust settling on cars, window sills and washing from a site next door.

We measure

PM2.5, PM10 and deposited dust at the receptor, correlated with site activity and weather.

Learn more

Water & pollution

A discoloured stream, a fish kill, or runoff you suspect but cannot pin to a source.

We measure

Turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity tracked over time, so change ties to a window.

Learn more

Flooding & water level

A culvert or stream that floods without warning, then everyone argues about why.

We measure

Water level and rainfall with automated early-warning alerts — before it overtops, not after.

Learn more

Vibration & structural

Traffic, plant or construction you can feel coming through the building.

We measure

Tri-axial PPV vibration monitoring against the construction and structural limits that apply.

Learn more

Invisible risk

Corrosion, moisture or slow degradation quietly building towards a failure or a claim.

We measure

Always-on sensors that flag the early signal — before the failure becomes the evidence.

Why measuring is not enough

A reading is not a record.

Most nuisance cases do not fail because nobody measured. They fail because nobody tied the measurement to a time, a place and a standard. That is the gap we close.

A cheap sensor says

62 dB

A number. No context. No timeline. No standard. Useless in a dispute.

A Nuisance.ie record says

  • 62 dB LAeq,15min at receptor R1
  • Measured 22:14 – 22:29, 14 July 2026
  • Wind: SW 3.2 m/s, no rain
  • Exceeds planning condition limit of 55 dB
  • Third exceedance this week

“If nobody owns the chronology, everybody owns the argument.”

How it works

From a problem to proof, in five steps.

01

Tell us what is happening

Describe the problem in plain terms. We tell you honestly whether monitoring can help.

02

We triage and scope it

We decide what to measure, where, for how long, and to which standard.

03

We deploy the right kit

The correct sensor system for your specific problem — not a generic box.

04

We capture the evidence

Continuous, timestamped, weather-correlated data — not just isolated readings.

05

You get the record

A clear, defensible chronology, referenced to the standard, ready for whatever comes next.

Who it's for

Whichever side of the fence you are on.

The same defensible record serves the resident making the case and the operator answering it.

Residents & communities

Turn “we have complained for years” into a clear record the council and courts can act on.

Submit a problem

Local authorities

Independent, standard-referenced monitoring to resolve complaints and enforce conditions.

For authorities

Operators & property owners

Show you are within your limits — before a complaint becomes an investigation.

For operators

Insurers & legal advisers

Establish when a risk first became foreseeable, with a timeline that holds up.

For insurers & legal

How to work with us

Three ways to get started.

From a single focused snapshot to always-on assurance for hidden risk.

Planning Nuisance Snapshot

A managed, source-linked desktop report on the nuisance themes around a site or proposal, from €1,500.

Nuisance Monitoring Programme

The right sensor system for a defined problem, run long enough to build the full record.

  • Continuous timestamped record
  • Weather-correlated data
  • Standard-referenced analysis
  • A defensible chronology

Scoped per case

Ongoing Assurance

Always-on monitoring for hidden risks, with early warning before a failure becomes the evidence.

  • Always-on monitoring
  • Early-warning alerts
  • Corrosion, moisture, vibration
  • Board-ready reporting

Why this matters now

The burden of proof keeps rising.

The question is no longer “Do you have data?” It is “Can you prove what happened?”

EPA

Can the operator prove the licence condition was met?

An Coimisiún Pleanála

Was the planning noise limit actually observed?

Local Authority

What happened, when, and how often?

Insurer

When did the risk first become foreseeable?

Frequently asked

What people ask before they get in touch.

What does Nuisance.ie actually do?

We measure environmental nuisance — noise, odour, dust, light, water, flooding, vibration and pollution — and turn it into defensible, timestamped evidence. We deploy the right sensor system for a defined problem, capture a continuous record, and deliver a clear chronology referenced to the standard that applies.

Who uses Nuisance.ie?

Residents and communities, local authorities, operators and property owners, insurers and legal advisers, and developers and consultants across Ireland — anyone who needs to answer “what actually happened?” with evidence rather than argument.

How fast is the Planning Nuisance Snapshot?

The Planning Nuisance Snapshot is a managed desktop report delivered within 72 hours. The 72-hour period begins once we have accepted the instruction and received the complete available document bundle. Longer monitoring programmes, and any physical measurement, are scoped to the problem and undertaken with suitably qualified partners where required.

Do you provide legal or planning advice?

No. We provide evidence, monitoring and decision-support. We do not provide legal, planning, acoustic, environmental or insurance advice unless expressly agreed with appropriately qualified partners.

Which standards do you work to?

Our acoustic work is EPA NG4-aligned and planning-condition aware, including An Coimisiún Pleanála requirements. Odour, dust, light and water monitoring reference the frameworks relevant to each site and licence.

Have a nuisance problem?

Tell us what you can sense. We’ll prove what happened.

We review every submission and respond within one working day.
