The parameters that tell the story
Turbidity
The clearest indicator of sediment runoff. Spikes correlate with rainfall, works activity, or drainage events.
pH
Sudden changes can indicate industrial discharge, mine drainage, or slurry runoff.
Conductivity
A proxy for dissolved solids. Elevated readings can indicate road runoff or agricultural inputs.
Temperature
Thermal pollution from industrial discharges. Critical for fish health and ecological status.
Flow & Level
Context for every other parameter. A pollution event during low flow is different from one during a flood.
Dissolved Oxygen
The bottom line for aquatic life. Low DO is a red flag.

A single water sample taken at 11 AM on a Tuesday tells you what was in the water at 11 AM on a Tuesday. Continuous logging captures the events that grab samples miss. It creates a timeline. It correlates with weather, tides, and activities upstream. In a river catchment, chronology is everything.
